Dr. James Besse

Dr. James Besse is a Policy Researcher in interface’s AI Systems, Markets and Governance Programme. His work is in scientometrics and applied statistics, focused on the quantification and promotion of innovation.

Prior to joining interface, James worked as a Data Scientist and Research Analyst at RAND Europe. With over five years of statistical modelling experience and more than two years in the government sector, he has previously led scientometrics and data science for multiple large-scale evaluations and innovation strategy projects. He holds a PhD and MSc in Science, Technology and Innovation Studies from the University of Edinburgh.
