As part of the Publix Tech Journalism Fellowship, Dr. Thorsten Wetzling and Corbinian Ruckerbauer will give a presentation on 17 April 2026 on the use of AI by intelligence services. The fellowship, which focuses on ‘Ethical AI’, brings together political, science and digital journalists to build expertise on AI, corresponding ethical challenges, and to facilitate dialogue with experts from academia, politics and civil society.
Dr. Thorsten Wetzling and Corbinian Ruckerbauer will discuss specific use cases for AI in intelligence work, as well as the current legal situation and discussed legislative amendments in Germany. They will also share best practices from other countries, providing guidance on effective oversight mechanisms for the use of emerging surveillance technologies by intelligence services.
